Battery settings by phone brand

Many phones close apps in the background to save battery, which stops the alarms. Pick your brand below. Menu names change slightly between versions; if you can't find an option, search for it in the Settings search bar.

Samsung Galaxy (One UI)

  1. Settings › Apps › Theft & Battery Alarm › Battery and choose Unrestricted.
  2. Settings › Battery › Background usage limits: make sure the app is not in Sleeping apps or Deep sleeping apps, and add it to Never sleeping apps.
  3. Turn off Put unused apps to sleep on the same screen if the app keeps getting closed.
  4. Optional: in Settings › Apps › Theft & Battery Alarm › Mobile data allow background data usage, needed for password recovery and Drive backup.

Older One UI versions call the list “Unmonitored apps” under Device care › Battery › App power management.

Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO (HyperOS / MIUI)

  1. Long-press the app icon › App info › Autostart: turn it on.
  2. In App info › Battery saver (or Battery) choose No restrictions.
  3. In the recent apps screen, long-press (or pull down) the app's card and tap the lock icon so “clear all” doesn't close it.
  4. Optional: App info › Other permissions › allow Show on lock screen and Display pop-up windows while running in the background so the alarm can open over the lock screen.

Huawei and Honor (EMUI / MagicOS)

  1. Settings › Battery › App launch (or Launch): find the app, turn off Manage automatically and make sure Auto-launch, Secondary launch and Run in background are all on.
  2. Settings › Apps › Apps › Theft & Battery Alarm › Battery: allow Power-intensive prompt and keep it running after the screen is off, if your version shows these options.
  3. Lock the app in the recent apps screen (pull its card down) so it isn't closed when the screen locks.

OnePlus, OPPO and realme (OxygenOS / ColorOS / realme UI)

  1. Long-press the app icon › App info › Battery usage: turn on Allow background activity (and Allow auto launch if shown).
  2. In App info › Battery (on some versions Battery optimization) choose Don't optimize / Unrestricted.
  3. Lock the app in the recent apps screen (tap the menu on its card › Lock).
  4. Older versions: Settings › Battery › More settings, turn off Optimize battery use or Sleep standby optimization for the app.

vivo and iQOO (Funtouch OS / OriginOS)

  1. Settings › Battery › Background power consumption management: set the app to Allow high background power consumption / Don't restrict.
  2. Settings › Apps › Autostart (or i Manager › App manager › Autostart manager): turn it on for the app.
  3. Lock the app in the recent apps screen.

Google Pixel and stock Android (Motorola, Nokia, Sony…)

  1. Long-press the app icon › App info › App battery usage (or Battery) and choose Unrestricted.
  2. On older versions: Settings › Apps › Special app access › Battery optimization, switch the list to All apps, select the app and choose Don't optimize.
  3. Make sure Pause app activity if unused is off in App info.

Other brands

Look for any of these in the app's App info screen or the phone's battery settings and allow them for Theft & Battery Alarm: Unrestricted battery, Don't optimize, Auto start / Auto launch, Run in background, Allow background activity.

After changing these settings, open Theft & Battery Alarm once and turn your alarm on again. Settings › Check permissions confirms what's still missing.
